Restore Your Smile with Natural-Looking Materials

When a tooth is cracked or otherwise at risk of breaking, a dental crown is a tried-and-true solution. Traditionally, crowns are made from silver or gold amalgams. While these materials work great, they can also stand out in an otherwise pearly white smile. Our team uses high-quality, tooth-colored materials for our dental crowns, meaning your restoration will look perfectly natural.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is almost like a hat for your tooth. It’s placed overtop of cracked or recently root canal-treated teeth and covers the entire surface – including the sides. The goal of dental crown treatment is to protect teeth that are structurally compromised in a way that increases the risk of complete breakage or infection. With a crown in place, weakened teeth are shielded from everyday chewing pressure and bacteria.

The Process of Getting a Dental Crown

Actually placing a dental crown overtop of a damaged tooth typically only takes an hour or less. However, the process of creating a crown is a bit more involved. Here’s what you can expect:

  • After taking X-rays, reshaping your tooth as necessary, and taking impressions, we’ll provide you with a temporary crown that you’ll wear for about one or two weeks.
  • In the meantime, we’ll send your impressions to a dental lab, where skilled technicians will fabricate and customize your permanent
  • Once we receive the permanent crown back from the lab, we’ll have you return to the office so we can swap it out with the temporary crown.
  • From there, if you need any adjustments or repairs, all you have to do is give us a call!

Benefits of Getting a Dental Crown

The true beauty of a dental crown is that it will enable you to keep the majority of your tooth’s structure and help you avoid needing an extraction or more extensive treatment down the line. You’ll preserve your natural chewing ability and (thanks to our tooth-colored materials) your natural smile aesthetics.

Our dental crowns are highly durable as well. As long as you take good care of it with consistent oral hygiene and good dental habits, you can expect your crown to last for 15 years or more!
